REPORTS TO: Director of Research

Description
The portfolio of research work conducted by CUPA-HR on behalf of its member institutions, most notably its comprehensive higher ed salary and benefits surveys, is considered the benchmark and platinum standard for higher education, and is participated in by more than 1,400 colleges and universities annually, across all institutional types (e.g., public, private, large, small, 4-year, 2-year).

PRIMARY FUNCTION:
CUPA-HR has two openings for the position of Survey Researcher with these primary functions:
1) Develop surveys for CUPA-HR data collection efforts
2) Function as a project manager for new and existing surveys
3) Collect data and manage survey databases
4) Analyze survey data
5) Disseminate results through publications and presentations
6) Assist users in accessing their own custom data and reports via our online
data reporting tool

The incumbent performs functions that support the mission of maintaining CUPA-HR’s position as the platinum standard for higher ed salary research and building CUPA-HR’s research capacity to collect and communicate data that inform decisions around higher ed workplace issues. The Survey Researcher must fully understand survey methodology, statistical analysis, project management, data communication, and scientific writing.

The Survey Researcher collaborates with other members of the research team, communications and marketing, the member service team, survey vendors, and members of the higher ed HR community to develop surveys; enable and enhance survey participation; analyze results; and develop effective methods for communicating data that enable higher ed HR leadership to make informed decisions about hiring, retaining, and compensating staff and faculty talent, as well as improving and advocating for the higher ed workplace. Thus, this position requires an ability to collaborate, communicate, and manage various stakeholders in achieving project goals.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
A. SURVEY DEVELOPMENT
• Identify key concepts to be measured
• Define target populations
• Create survey questions using research-based best practices

B. PROJECT MANAGEMENT
• Identify target audiences and stakeholders
• Assess data needs and wants of the higher ed HR community
• Manage multiple projects and timelines
• Manage expectations in an environment of change
• Take ownership of and lead projects

C. DATA COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT
• Oversee data collection procedures
• Ensure data is as error-free as possible
• Ensure data is secure and confidential
• Ensure data is appropriately accessible

D. DATA ANALYSIS AND DISSEMINATION

• Perform appropriate descriptive and inferential statistical analyses
• Write up results for target audiences
• Occasionally present results at conferences, webinars, or other appropriate events

E. USER ASSISTANCE

• Respond to user requests for assistance in accessing or using data

ASSIGNMENT, REVIEW AND APPROVAL OF WORK:
Incumbent reports to the Director of Research. Consults and collaborates with other national office staff and volunteer leaders of the higher ed HR community to achieve objectives.

RESPONSIBILITY AND DECISION-MAKING AUTHORITY:

The incumbent is expected to be proactive, work both independently and collaboratively, and organize and prioritize tasks to assure timely data collection and delivery of results, staying consistent with the mission, goals and established standards and strategic priorities of the association. Further, incumbent must represent CUPA-HR in a professional, accurate, and responsive manner when handling external and internal communications. Also, incumbent must maintain confidentiality of association information.

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS REQUIRED
:

EDUCATION
• Graduate degree in social science, institutional research, or related field is required. Doctoral degree is preferred

EXPERIENCE
• Requires substantial experience in survey development, data analysis, and scientific writing
• Experience in workplace, institutional, or organizational assessment is a plus

SKILLS
• Demonstrable ability to design and implement surveys is required
• Demonstrable ability to analyze survey data (e.g., descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, ANOVA, regression, factor analysis, other modeling techniques) is required
• A publication history of scientific writing is required
• Must be detail and deadline oriented
• Must respect the confidentiality and sensitivity of data
• Must have excellent communication and writing skills

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Position is a regular, full-time, exempt position under the Fair Labor Standards Act. Some evening hours, weekend work, and travel will be required.

SALARY RANGE AND BENEFITS:
Annual salary $75K-$85K commensurate with qualifications and experience.
