The School of Communication and Creative Arts at Johnson University is inviting applications for the full-time position of Professor of Communication — Public Relations/Journalism. To be considered, candidates must demonstrate sufficient academic qualifications and practice in the field, must be able to teach a variety of undergraduate courses in public relations, strategic communication, and preferably also in journalism and production.

Responsibilities: The position will call for teaching mass communication classes, mainly focused on public relations, but also in other mass communication areas, advising students, working with other members of the faculty of School of Communication and Creative Arts in the development and continuation of curriculum and accreditation, and contributing to campus life and student development. The position reports to the Dean of the School of Communication and Creative Arts.

Rank and Salary: These will be commensurate with educational level and experience.

Proposed Starting Date: July 1, 2018, is the effective contract date; August 1, 2018, is the reporting date.

Required Qualifications:
A Ph.D. in Communication or a relevant discipline by time of appointment, with significant experience in the public relations field, whether in an agency, corporate, in-house, non-profit, consulting or similar capacity. Background and experience with social media and emerging technologies. The abilities to: teach a wide range of public relations courses and other mass media courses; contribute to the development of curriculum; and work with a team of colleagues in diverse environments is required. Candidates must be able to sign and adhere to the University’s Statement of Faith and Community Covenant.

Preferred Qualifications: Prior professional experience in media production and journalism; evidence of successful teaching of courses related to public relations; experience with accrediting bodies such as SACSCOC and AEJMC; membership and involvement in leading public relations associations; contacts with industry leaders; and ability to expand university partnerships.
