Title: AdvisorClosing Date: 1/2/2018Position Summary: The purpose of this job is to provide academic advising, advising information, assistance and support for Pellissippi State students and serve as a resource for administrators and faculty. Contribute to strategic initiatives with the advising office and college wide. Type of Appointment: Full-TimeDepartment: AdvisingTypical Duties & Responsibilities: 20% Serve as a resource person for faculty and staff as needed; clarify student issues and work with students, other advisors, administrators, faculty the Department Deans, Financial Aid, Admissions, Records and the site campus Deans to reduce barriers to student success and completion. 20% Assist returning students with academic advising, graduation, and other academic issues20% Assist new students with initial major selection and first semester course registration; provide information about studentsuccess initiatives and on-campus resources;15% Assist with faculty and staff training and updates on resources for advising all students.15% Serve on college wide committees and taskforces as requested by the Director.10% Contribute to the overall mission of the advising office by interacting with the student and academic affairsoffices .Note: the College reserves the right to change or reassign job duties, or combine positions at any time.Required Qualifications: - Bachelor's degree- 2 years full-time work experience in higher education(Part-time work experience is calculated at 50% credit of full-time work experience)Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge of college policy regarding academics, including learning support, testing and retesting, withdrawal processes, progression requirements, graduation and exception practices.Knowledge of academic programs and requirements.Proficiency in the use of electronic informationsystems.Good public relations skills.Good problem solving skills.Good critical thinking skills.Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to establish goals and objectives and set work priorities.Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships.Ability to maintain confidentiality.Understanding of federal laws governing student privacy.Ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing, with students, faculty, and staffWork Hours: 37.5 hours per weekLocation of Position: The primary job location will be either the Magnolia or Strawberry Plains Campus. Travel within the two county service area as well as other TBR and vendor sites may be required. Pay Rate: $39,240 - $48,390.00/per year. Pay will be determined based on related workexperience above required.
